Surface Laptop 2 to come in black, almost no changes

We're just two weeks away before Microsoft's own big event and people are curious what the company has in store as far as its Surface brand goes. Obviously, no Surface Phone this year (or ever) but many are hoping ol' Redmond will use the hype of the Surface Go to showcase innovation and change. Fans, however, may be disappointed with at least one Surface product. If the leaks are true, the Surface Laptop 2 won't have much to offer other than a newer gen CPU and a new color option to replace one that's going out.

The first Surface Laptop was a mixed bag. It was Microsoft's first "conventional" laptop and it was premium in both specs and design. Its high price tag, however, paired with Microsoft's initial "Windows 10 S" strategy made it less than enticing. With a second gen product, Microsoft has the opportunity to make some corrections. Sadly, it won't.

The information comes via MySmartPrice, though the site itself isn't completely sold on the leak. The Surface Laptop 2, if that will indeed be its name, is shown in four color options, just like last year. What has changed, however, is the Graphite Gold option is being replaced with Black. The same Cobalt Blue, Burgundy Red, and Platinum colors remain.

The images, of course, can't tell the whole story. According to source, the Surface Laptop 2 will sport the latest 8th gen Intel Core processors but not much else will change. If true, it will be terribly disappointing if Microsoft skips the chance to finally put a USB-C port in the laptop.

Then again, these are all still unconfirmed and, like in the Surface Go and Surface Book 2, Microsoft showed it was not totally allergic to the port. Microsoft could also show a sleight of hand and distract the audience with a Surface Studio 2. Suffice it to say, the market will be keeping an eye on whether Microsoft does have what it takes to keep its Surface line afloat.
