Super Sonic Figure Goes Super Expensive for Sonic's Birthday

Can you believe that one of the most prodigal video game figures has turned 19 today? That's right! Dating back to June 23rd, 1991, when Sega released the first Sega Genesis title. They grow up so fast! And while you can celebrate Sonic's birthday in all sorts of ways (including downloads of older titles), we'd suggest that you save up a bit more money, and prepare yourself to have a little Super Sonic goodness in your life.

First 4 Figures, known for their overly-expensive "figurines," has just unveiled their newest invention. Expertly modeled from the "Genesis-era," this model showcases Sonic when he's become infused with the Chaos Emerald. He becomes all gold, powerful, and Super. He's even racing across a platform from Sonic 2's Chemical Plant Zone. We're getting all nostalgic just thinking about it!

The figure itself is 15-inches tall, so it's pretty good sized. And while the company is unveiling these bad boys in time for Sonic's birthday, they're actually not going to be available until early 2011. How much do you need to start saving up? $140 for the model that doesn't light up, and $160 for the model that does feature the light-up option. Yes, we've already started tucking away our own cash reserves, because we want one.
