Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Labo VR Mode Tipped In Leak

The Nintendo Labo VR headset is a pretty cool accessory on its own, but after launch, Nintendo upped the ante a little bit by rolling out VR modes for both Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It looks like those games aren't the only ones getting VR modes, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate apparently slated to get one next. Yes, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, of all games, is about to get the Labo VR treatment.

The update that adds the VR mode will be coming along later today, if SSBUBot on Twitter has things correct. Though Nintendo hasn't released official patch notes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 3.1.0 yet, SSBUBot has all of the details for us. The bot typically publishes information about upcoming Ultimate patches several hours before they're released, and it says that Ultimate's 3.1.0 update will go live tonight at 6:00pm Pacific/9:00pm Eastern.

Unfortunately, the patch notes leaked via SSBUBot don't go into detail about what to expect from this new VR mode. In Super Mario Odyssey, the VR content amounts to nothing more than a small additional mode, while in Breath of the Wild, the entire game is playable in Labo VR. That means we can't really look to past VR modes for an idea of what to expect in Ultimate since Odyssey and BotW both have radically different approaches to VR.

In any case, Ultimate's VR mode isn't the only thing coming along with version 3.1.0. Once the update has been applied, you'll be able to "send your amiibo off on journeys to train," and spar with other FP Fighters. Those FP Fighters will also be able to participate in Battle Arenas as well, so you can show off your best amiibo fighters to your friends online.

All in all, it sounds like a pretty interesting patch. Since Nintendo hasn't confirmed the content of 3.1.0 yet, take what you hear from SSBUBot with a grain of salt, but it's worth pointing out that the bot has been accurate with these leaks in the past. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more details about Ultimate's VR mode, so stay tuned for that.
