Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gets Labo VR support

Given how the previous Nintendo Labo DIY kits worked, it was a pleasant surprise that Nintendo announced updates to existing games that brought in support for its latest Labo VR Kit. The "VR experience", if you could call it that, wasn't exactly perfect but it was still an entertaining experience to see some games from a different point of view. Even more surprising, then, is Nintendo's unannounced update that brings the same new VR twist to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The first two games that were revealed to add support for the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con VR Goggles were Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The former added special levels accessible only when in VR Mode while BotW let you swing your head around to view Hyrule from a VR perspective.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate VR mode is somewhat a mix of the two. Its new VR mode is available only offline and for a limited number of timed battles. It basically lets players become a spectator of CPU battles but they also have the option to jump in as Player 1. Of course, they can also view everything from every angle, which might be a tad difficult to do given how you hold the Toy-Con VR.

Suffice it to say, players shouldn't expect a magical VR transformation for SSBU. Not that it would be easy anyway as you have to hold up the goggles as it doesn't come with a head strap. It's really more of a novelty for entertainment purposes rather than a serious jump into VR gaming, which isn't exactly surprising given Nintendo's hesitance on that part.

The Nintendo Labo Toy-Con VR Goggles addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes via the latest version 3.1.0 update that is just rolling out. The special mode is accessible from the Games & More menu. The update also brings in some balancing and bug fixes along with the option to send amiibos on training journeys on the Internet.
