Street Fighter 2 30th anniversary SNES cartridge is the real thing

Although retro gaming is a thing, it has mostly meant playing old games on modern hardware. To celebrate the 30th birthday of one of its most enduring franchises, Capcom teamed up with iam8bit to launch the limited edition Street Fighter 11 30th Anniversary Edition. In form and technology it remains faithful to the original, which means you'll need an original SNES, or at least a console that can read it, to fully enjoy this trip back in time.

Considering the technical limits of the SNES cartridge, don't expect any bonus content as far as in-game content goes. It's exactly the same Street Fighter II released in 1992. It is almost ironic that the game itself is the least interesting about this re-release. Mostly because you can get your SF2 fix anywhere these days.

Capcom and iam8bit instead poured their efforts into the packaging, both the cartridge itself as well as the box it comes in. For the latter, the two are boasting of a tri-fold design that mixes both old art with new materials like a shiny foil and embossed textures.

As for the cartridges, they come in two colors never before seen. One is Opaque Ryu Headband Red while the other is Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green. The latter is bound to be more interesting, partly because it glows in the dark and partly because it is partly translucent.

Both versions will cost $100, which you can pre-order now and hope it will really arrive by late November 2017. There will only be a total of 5,500 such cartridges made, 4,500 for the red design and 1,000 for the glow in the dark green. The problem is that you have no way of knowing which one you'll be getting until you open the box.
