Stranger Things 2 Super Bowl trailer reveals Halloween arrival

It was pretty obvious that Netflix planned to release a second season of its acclaimed Stranger Things show, and confirmation of such plans came only weeks after the first season's release. Netflix confirmed the second season would be released in 2017, and now thanks to a brief TV spot aired during the Super Bowl, we know the exact day to expect season two: this upcoming Halloween.

One beloved aspect of Stranger Things is its nostalgic underpinnings, something masterfully presented in many ways, including the show's artwork. Holding true to that foundational style is the Super Bowl TV spot's commercial, which opened with an old Eggo waffle commercial that appears straight off a VHS.

The brief confusion quickly gave away to excitement — it's a look at the second season of Stranger Things, and it teases that the Upside Down is breaking into the 'normal' world. If you haven't seen the first season, there's nothing terribly spoiler-worthy in the trailer, but it will diminish your first-season experience a bit.

There's not much to glean from these few seconds, but we see that the government is still involved in trifling with things best left alone. We also get a look at two Upside Down dimensional monsters, one being a drawing on a piece of paper and the other being a Cthulhu-like beast illuminated in a red ominous sky.
