Stardock Start10 Gives Back The Nostalgic Start Menu On Windows 10
Since Windows 8, the newer Microsoft OS's have been designed with touchscreen capabilities in mind. This led to the diminished functionality of the classically recognizable Start menu. Earlier versions of Windows 8 didn't use a start menu, that bottom-left based pop-up menu that Windows users had grown accustomed to over the years. Stardock is a company that released their own start menu, Start8, to fill the lacuna in Windows features. Windows 10 is now on the horizon, and Stardock is following suit in announcing their completed development of Start10, their newest Start menu.
Start10 will be an app that gives users a functional Windows 7 style start menu for for the new Windows 10. Consumers tend to like what they are used to, and OS layouts are no exception. Sure, Windows 8 is more fun to flip through on a touchscreen, but it's lacking when it comes down to doing actual work. It feels more like a tablet interface no matter what device is running it.
Start10 can add a classic or new style start menu to Windows 10. It also has an incorporated search feature for files, apps, and settings. There are also custom skins for the start button. Start10 is now in beta.
It's nice to see the app development community taking users wants and needs into consideration. They are filling the gaps that Windows has created when it abandoned the familiar and comforting start menu. Start10 is part of a larger Windows customization collection called Object Desktop which is available from Stardock.
