Spotify for desktop update brings lyrics feature

Spotify has announced an update for its desktop application, and with the update will come one big feature: lyrics. That's not the only benefit you'll get with updating, but it's definitely the most notable of the bunch, and one those with a karaoke bend will be excited about. The lyrics are powered by Musixmatch, which is hailed as the largest lyrics library in the world, and they're accessible simply by clicking a "Lyrics" button. Details on the other features after the jump!

Users are able to pull up the lyrics for a song by clicking the "Lyrics" button shown in the photo below. There's also an option to browse through and search for lyrics pulled from the top tracks on Spotify via the Explorer feature.

The new lyrics feature isn't the only notable addition that'll be arriving with this desktop update. Others include a rehashed Friend Feed, which makes it easier to get a look at what your friends are streaming. There's also a new daily viral charts listing, which dishes up the top shared tracks from both your local area and around the world.

All the charts on the service have been spruced up with new status indicators (like daily popularity), as well. If you're not seeing the update yet, hang tight — Spotify says it'll be rolling it out to desktop users over the "coming weeks", so you might have a bit of wait ahead of you.
