Sony's Standards For Battery Testing Change

Since Sony has come under a lot of fire for their advertised battery life and how that differs from the actual experienced battery life, the company will soon be switching to a different means of measuring the life of their batteries.

This new standard is called Jeita A and it will make it so Sony only publishes how long a notebook can run while playing a movie. Previously, the battery life was determined by taking the average of the length of time a battery lasted while idle and while playing a movie. Now, the results of these tests will better reflect the results users can experience at home as they perform a multitude of tasks on their notebooks.

Sony is expected to display a much lower battery life on their devices now that are about half of what they were previously reported. And while no test can predict what an individual user will experience, the updated testing standard gets the estimates a bit closer to reality.
