Sony Xperia Z5's "stunning pink" variant is here

Just a few hours ago, Sony teased that they were celebrating a new beauty. That, and the pink cupcake, was pretty much a dead giveaway that it would be announcing something that many might have already seen coming: a pink Xperia Z5. After all, pink, or rose gold for some, is the new black these days, so It seems only natural that Sony would be adding one to its premium looking Xperia Z5 family. With one more color choice, one that would probably appeal to any gender, the smartphone camera champion might have an expanded reach. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be available to the other members of the Xperia Z5 line, namely the Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact.

Lead designer Rikke Gertsen Constein says that pink has always been in their crosshair from the very first moodboard for the Xperia Z5. But getting the color just right apparently took a lot more effort than needed. Hence, the Xperia Z5 only launched with black, white, and (sickly) green. Sony's choice of dusky pink is meant to give off an image of freshness and contemporariness and not just "pink".

Other than that, there isn't anything new with this Xperia Z5 variant, which isn't exactly a bad thing. Sony may have finally redeemed itself with the Xperia Z5, at least to some extent and especially when it comes to photography. Benchmarking site DxOMark has given it the top spot, though it now shares that with Samsung's Galaxy S6 edge+. This pink variant also has the same "svelte continuous plate form" and frosted glass back as the other Xperia Z5 models have.

To recap, the Xperia Z5 has a 5.2-inch Full HD, not 4K not even 2K, display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. There's an ample 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage. Sony still boasts of a 2-day battery life, with STAMINA mode enabled, even with a rather paltry 2900 mAh battery. The 23 megapixel rear camera is, of course, one of the key features of this smartphone generation, with a 1/2.3-inch lens, 5x clear image zoom, Pulse LED flash, and 4K video recording capabilities.

Sony has not yet announced when the pink Xperia Z5 will be available and in which markets.
