Sony Xperia Android 9 Pie updates: which gets it when
Sony is arguably not one of the top Android smartphone makers in recent history but it does have some qualities that endear it to Android fans. One is the near vanilla Android experience Sony's Xperia phones offer. The other is its support of custom ROM development. Both of these factor in the speed of Android updates and now Sony is giving faithful fans the great news. Android 9 Pie will be theirs in the next few weeks.
It should actually already be theirs if they bought the new Xperia XZ3 that just became officially available in the US yesterday. But even if the opted for the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, they can now upgrade to Android 9 Pie as well.
Sony says that some of its smartphones are getting the pie earlier than what it announced last August. Specifically, these models will get Android 9 starting October 26:
• Xperia XZ Premium
• Xperia XZ1
• Xperia XZ1 Compact
Strangely enough, the Xperia XZ2 Premium, which was just recently launched, won't get Android Pie until November 7. The rest of Sony's early 2018 brood will get there dessert in March 2019, namely:
• Xperia XA2
• Xperia XA2 Ultra
• Xperia XA2 Plus
While Sony hasn't exactly taken the smartphone market by storm, timely and promised updates like these do give value to the brand. Unfortunately, that might be enough to keep the mobile business afloat, though Sony doesn't seem to actually care that much about it.
