Sony BeautyExplorer lets you see zits up close

Sony has unveiled a new camera system that it is aiming at the beauty industry called BeautyExplorer. The camera system is designed to allow you to see blemishes on your face or body up close and personal. The BeautyExplorer system will launch in mid-March and the camera will be used with a dedicated tablet.

Images from the camera will be shown on the tablet screen making the system portable so partners can carry it wherever they need for consultations. The system has its own analysis servers and apps that use an algorithm to set a base level for the skin and show improvements over time.

Sony says that in home skin systems that lack the power to be used professionally. The skin analysis technology Sony developed for its professional level BeautyExplorer system is called SSKEP. The camera uses Sony image sensors and has the power to see things on the skin that you can't see with the eye alone.

The second image here shows what the interface of the app looks like and how it rates the skin of the users. The data is stored on cloud servers allowing data to be compared. The camera has a battery good for 110 minutes of use per charge. The CMOS sensor in the camera is a 1.3MP unit.
