Sling TV streaming in Chrome browser goes live

If you prefer to stream live television on your laptop rather than through the company's mobile apps, a new beta launch should get you excited. The company has announced the arrival of Sling TV streaming in Google's Chrome browser, though the entire thing is still in a beta right now. The streaming is possible within Chrome sans the use of a plugin or app.

One must wonder how many Sling TV subscribers would prefer to watch the service through Chrome browser rather than any of the number of set-top-box apps or mobile apps, but no doubt these users exist. A MacBook or Windows PC connected to a television may be one possible reason to try out this beta; it also makes it possible to have television playing in one tab while you get work done in another tab on your laptop.

Regardless of why, Sling TV has made the feature a reality, and it is now just a matter of working out the bugs. You must be running at least OS X Lion 10.7 or higher, or Windows 7 or higher to use the dedicated Sling TV apps on laptop. However, the Chrome beta is available to everyone who is using the latest version of Chrome browser.

This suitably rounds out Sling TV's already wide array of supported devices. Sling supports the Xbox One, Android, iOS, Amazon Fire, LG webOS 3.0, ZTE devices, Android TV, LeEco smart TVs, AirTV Player, Channel Master, Xiaomi Mi Box, Roku LT and newer, Chromecast, and Apple TV. The only major absence at this point is a persisting lack of support for PlayStation 4 consoles.

As for Sling TV as a service, new subscribers can sign up for a 7-day trial to test the platform. As with competing services, Sling offers live streaming television over the Internet, and it has also recently introduced a cloud DVR feature. Competing services include Hulu Live TV, DirecTV NOW, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV.
