Slickly designed security control from IDTi

It might look like a kick-ass clock/radio for your tech-laden bedside table, but this button-studded contraption is in fact IDTi's latest biometric access control unit.  The BSC-401 not only has a fingerprint scanner but a 1.3-megapixel camera (for capturing shots of your friends/family/employees so you can later prove that they used the last of the milk) and a 3.5-inch colour LCD screen.

Not being a security expert myself, I'm a little bemused about why you'd need such features – let alone the dual-core CPU IDTi have apparently put inside the 401 – but it's nice to know that you can store up to 10,000 different fingerprints and it can communicate via wired or wireless LAN or serial connections.  It's not short of access technology, either – as well as fingerprints you can use RFID smartcards or PIN numbers.
