Skype for Business app arrives for Windows Phone
Microsoft has another announcement for its Skype for Business users — it has finally rolled out a Windows Phone app, one that is a rebrand of the Lync 2013 app, and users on both services are able to use it. All the Skype for Business features are there, such as the calling features coupled with instant messaging, control over meetings, phone controls like transferring, and more. It also has some security features like passive authentication and a Skype for Business certificate.
Microsoft announced the app's arrival today, and as expected it comes as a Lync rebrand. The app looks both distinctly Skype and distinctly Windows Phone, and extends the mobile options those who rely on the service have.
Getting the app is a bit tricky, though. If you're running windows Phone 8.1 and don't already have the Lync 2013 app, just download the Skype for Business app. If you do have the Lync 2013 app, however, the swap will be automatic, says Microsoft. If you're still using Windows Phone 8.0 you'll be staying on the Lync app rather than getting the update.
This is Microsoft's second Skype for Business announcement in the last week, with it recently introducing a new software preview that expands Skype's usefulness for business meetings, among other things. Check out the timeline below for more!
