SanDisk iXpand Memory Case lets your iPhone 6 remember more

The debate over whether microSD card slots are essential or not still goes on for some people and OEMs. But considering Apple refuses to let go of its 16 GB baseline models, for some iPhone users, additional storage is not just a luxury but a necessity. Being an iPhone, of course you're normally out of luck. Unless you get one of SanDisk's new iXpand Memory Cases which, as you might have guessed, lets you have the semblance of external storage on your iPhone 6 or 6s. Plus it protects your premium looking and priced smartphone, too!

Although the iPhone doesn't have a microSD slot, it does somewhat support external storage via its Lightning port. They say necessity is the mother of invention, which is how accessory and storage makers like SanDisk have created iPhone cases that more or less permanently stick said external storage to your iPhone. In this particular case, the iXpand allows users to add 32, 64, or even 128 GB of extra storage to their iPhones.

That storage also comes with a few benefits that take advantage of SanDisk's expertise and storing and protecting data. For example, the case allows you to automatically back up your camera roll to the case. It even lets you password protect said data so that private things remain private even when you move them to a Mac or PC, where you would need SanDisk's SecureAccess software to, well, access them.

That extra storage alone might make the iXpand a worthwhile buy for some iPhone users, but that isn't the only trick it knows. A 1,900 mAh battery pack add-on, sold separately unfortunately, easily allows users to extend their battery life as well as their data storage, when and only when they need it. Want to travel light? Snap the battery off and off you go. Plus, the case's hard plastic exterior and soft rubber interior can protect your precious iPhone from accidental bumps and soft drops.

Of course, you'll have to live with a bit of added heft and girth, but the benefits might far outweigh the sacrifice. SanDisk's iXpand Memory Case is now available for purchase, for $60 for the 32 GB case, $100 for 64 GB, and $130 for 128 GB. Available colors include grey, blue, red, and teal. Sadly, the cases are only compatible with the iPhone 6 and 6s, leaving the larger Plus models bare.
