You might not know it, but Samsung has actually been making foldable phones for years now. And by "foldable", we mean the original foldable phones, a.k.a. clamshell phones, a.k.a. flip phones. Long declared after the original X-Files run ended, Samsung continues to make such blasts from the past for one market alone: China. Though it sometimes does sell them in Korea, too. This year is no exception and, in fact, the premium SM-W2019 flip phone could put other premium non-flip phones to shame. At least in price.

To be fair, the Samsung W2019 is everything you'd expect in a high-end 2018 smartphone, despite the name. It run on the latest Snapdragon 845 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of still expandable internal storage. There are two 12 megapixel sensors on its back, one with its dual f/1.5-2.4 aperture lens an another with 2x optical telephoto lens. There's also a side-mounted fingerprint scanner because there's really no other room for it anywhere else.

Like the foldable phone prototype, the W2019 has two screens, except neither actually folds themselves. They're both 4.2-inch 1920x1080 screens so there's no room for jealousy. No Infinity type display either though. Given two screens and high specs, the 3,070 mAh battery sounds a bit limiting.

From specs to looks to the materials used, the Samsung SM-W2019 leaves little doubt it's a premium phone, even if it's style comes from an age long past. And just like any premium phone, it is expected to carry a premium price. Around 10,000 RMB, roughly $1,400, a price tag that even the Galaxy Note 9 doesn't dare to reach.
