Samsung sponsorship backfires with angry LeBron James tweet

Samsung is no stranger to having celebrity sponsorships backfire, usually in the form of the designated public person using an iPhone while endorsing one of the Korean company's handsets. Such wasn't the case with its latest sponsorship hiccup, though arguably it would have been better: LeBron James fired out a tweet complaining that his phone had deleted all of his data.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, read: "My phone just erased everything it had in it and rebooted. One of the sickest feelings I've ever had in my life!!!" Before being deleted, the tweet was retweeted hundreds of times.

Of course, James has been a long-running form of endorsement for Samsung, hawking its various devices in commercials and similar advertisements. Given his public association with the company's smartphones, the tweet is especially unfortunate.

Twitter is often the place where this sort of faux pas takes place. As we pointed out earlier this month, for example, Ellen's tweets at the 2014 Oscars show she was using her iPhone to snap pictures backstage, though she was officially using a Galaxy Note III, which was used to take the now famous celebrities selfie.
