Samsung LED 7000 and 8000 series TVs get Skype

Earlier this week I mentioned that Samsung would be sending its new C7000, C8000, and C9000 3D TVs to Europe starting in March. Similar sets will be shipping in the US as well and today a new feature of some of the 2010 Samsung TVs have surfaced.

Skype has announced that the Samsung LED 7000 and 8000 series TVs will feature Skype software installed allowing the user to make video and voice calls directly through the TV. The software will first ship on Samsung sets in Korea and will be rolled out to other countries during the first half of the year.

The needed camera for making video calls is not included with the TV. The sets are designed to allow the user to connect a FREETALK TV Camera to the set. The camera is made by ISS and can be picked up on the Skype store. Skype isn't clear in this announcement if the 7000 and 8000 series sets that are getting this feature are the C7000 and C8000 units that will be turning up in Europe.
