Samsung Flip whiteboard takes on Google Jamboard, Surface Hub

No, this isn't a new flip phone, though Samsung definitely makes those (in China and Korea only). This whiteboard doesn't even flip. It actually rotates, but Samsung Turn would probably be a boring product name. Call it whatever you want but, at the end of the meeting, the Samsung Flip would have captured all your notes and brainstorming in a more "natural" but totally modern way, joining the slowly growing roster of digital whiteboards like those from Google and Microsoft.

How many kinds of digital whiteboards do you need anyway? Not much really, but, of course, these companies have their own ecosystems and would prefer you to stay locked into those. Samsung is still a bit coy on how exactly it will work with its own army of PCs, smartphones, and services, other than the Flip will easily accept content from such connected devices.

So you have a 55-inch display that can either be set up in portrait or landscape. Then you have what Samsung calls a "Passive Pen", which has, unlike other passive styluses, pressure sensitivity. You can use it to write like you would with a marker on a whiteboard, but you can also mark the board with your finger.

There is also a feature where you can erase content with your finger or palm, as if you turned your palm into a board eraser. Curiously, patents have recently surfaced showing that Samsung has something similar for smartphones, possibly the Galaxy Note 9 later this year. Oh, and unlike traditional whiteboards, erased material don't always stay erased forever.

While this might sound like something great to have in your small team office, Samsung Flip is most likely, like the Google Jamboard and Microsoft Surface Hub, aimed at bigger businesses that can afford it. Samsung hasn't yet released information regarding price tags or launch dates, but expect it not to be so affordable for common folk.
