Samsung has pulled the wraps off some new autonomous driving tech that it has been working on including the DRVLINE Platform that is an open, modular, and scalable platform allowing the building of advanced customized cars of the future. Samsung is positioning the platform for OEMs and mobility as a service provider.

The DRVLINE platform has been designed to allow vendors to collaborate and customize the software. Individual components can be customized, enhanced, and swapped out as needed. Samsung says that customization also helps to future-proof the platform. Essentially the platform lets OEMs work towards future Level 5 autonomy.

The platform has IoT, embedded systems, and in-car computer for Levels 3, 4, and 5 automation. A new ADAS forward-facing camera system is part of the platform and was created by Samsung and HARMAN. The platform has lane departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.

The partnership between HARMAN and Samsung was also detailed at CES 2018. In addition to the camera system, the two are also working on a new digital cockpit platform for all vehicle segments. A new telematics solution is also part of the partnership with the first automotive-grade 5G ready connectivity solution.

The digital cockpit has a premium configuration with ecosystem of connected lifestyle across the Internet of Things. The system has multiple displays and uses the HARMAN Ignite Platform allowing a personalizable experience in-car for driver and passenger. The new Samsung and Harman hardware will start shipping this year.
