Russia's City Car to be First Homegrown Hybrid Car
Hybrid cars are all over the planet, as people try their best to be eco-friendly in this day and age (not to mention it does wonders to the vehicle's mileage). But, up until now, Russia had yet to create their very own hybrid car. That's about to change, thanks to billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who has just unveiled the first homegrown hybrid car for the country. It only took him 180 days and $210 million of investment money to come up with the design.
The vehicle itself is being called the City Car right now, but that's not going to be the official name of the vehicle. In an interesting move, Prokhorov has decided to create a contest to name the City Car. The vehicle is just a prototype right now, but the designers are hoping to get it shown off by December. As for the cost of the vehicle, Prokhorov is expecting it to be anywhere between $12,000 and $14,000.
The City Car is a natural gas-electric variant, and will be able to reach 65 miles per gallon, and it will have a top speed of 74mph. And, as you can see form the image above, there's a very distinctive two-tone color scheme to the vehicle. There's no word on whether or not you'll be able to choose the colors, but the two-tone nature will stay, as it's being seen as a brand signature. And, if you're not a fan of the hatchback model, there's also going to be a sedan version, too.
