Respawn teams with Lucasfilm and EA to make new Star Wars game

Respawn Entertainment's Stig Asmussen has announced a new company partnership with Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts to create a new Star Wars video game. "For me, just typing these words is surreal," says Asmussen, adding, "The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavor." The video game will be of the third-person action/adventure variety set in the Star Wars universe.

Asmussen announced the new partnership and game plans today, promising that the company will "pay respect" to Star Wars and all it encompasses "at all times," reinforcing this as one of the central design tenets for the game. The company previously created the game Titanfall, and it promises to bring the same level of skill to the new Star Wars title.

At this point, Respawn has only said that the game with be a third-person action adventure, but more details are already in place, Asmussen suggested, and we'll be hearing about them in the future. There's already a small team in place to work on the project, and a recent tweet from the company indicates they're hiring more members to work on it.

Asmussen continued, saying:

What a rarity, for a book, a film, or even a game to have that kind of impact, spanning several generations, even promising to continue into future ones. The opportunity to be a part of that is not something to take for granted. This is an opportunity that I, the team, and Respawn could not and would not pass up.

This is the chance of a lifetime.

When the game is set to be released — and the title — haven't yet been revealed. While you're waiting, be sure to check out Star Wars Battlefront; the upcoming 'Bespin' DLC will be arriving next month.
