Respawn hits 16,000 Apex Legends cheaters with the banhammer

Respawn has enjoyed some pretty insane success with Apex Legends since its surprise launch a couple of weeks ago. The game pulled in a whopping 25 million players in its first week alone, which is certainly more than most battle royale games can claim. Of course, along with those millions of players comes droves of cheaters, but it seems that Respawn is on the case.

The developers has revealed that it's already banned 16,000 cheaters from the game, which has been out for a mere two weeks as of today. That's an impressive statistic on its own, but it's made even more impressive by the fact that there isn't an easy way for players to report suspected cheaters yet.

Instead, as Respawn explains in a Reddit update it published over the week, players need to head to the Easy Anti-Cheat website and file their reports there, preferably with some kind of evidence. It's a clunky way to report others, and it probably doesn't catch as many cheaters as an in-game reporting function would.

There's good news on that front, though, as Respawn community manager Jay Frechette suggests in that very same Reddit post that such a feature is on the way. Frechette only teased the addition of in-game reporting, so at the moment, we don't have any idea of when it might roll out.

In other news, Frechette says that Respawn continues to work on fixes for the crashes players have been experiencing, and the next fix is scheduled to go live sometime this week. In the meantime, he urged everyone who encounters bugs to report them over on EA's support site. We'll be keeping an eye out for that promised patch, so stay tuned for more.
