Report: HP might sell photo-printing service Snapfish

HP is considering selling off its Snapfish service, according to sources that spoke to Reuters. This person, said to have "knowledge of the situation", claims HP has been in talks with multiple potential buyers for the service it acquired back in 2005.

Snapfish is HP's online photo-sharing and printing service, and according to the source, HP considers it a "non-core" product that the company apparently is not in need of. HP has not officially commented on the leak one way or the other.

The source claims the company has spoke to both potential buyers in the industry and private equity buyers. Says the source, some of these potential buyers are also looking into buying Shutterfly, Inc., a similar service for printing photos and ordering photo books and such.

The latter company reportedly hired a firm this past summer to locate a buyer, and that particular sale will be finalized in several weeks. No other details are available at this time, such as who these potential buyers are or how much HP is looking for its service. The company bought Snapfish several years ago for $300 million.
