Red Dead Redemption 2 unlocks GameStop Xbox One discount

If you find yourself in the rather strange position of looking forward to Red Dead Redemption 2 but you don't actually have a console to play it on, GameStop has a deal aimed directly at you. The company announced today that it will be giving out Xbox One discounts to anyone who buys Red Dead Redemption 2 either at launch or shortly after. We don't see deals like this very often, but hey, a discount is a discount.

More specifically, you'll be able to save $100 off the price of any new Xbox One when you pick up a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2. That applies to both the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S, bringing the cost of the former down to $399.99 and the latter to $199.99.

A $200 Xbox One S certainly isn't bad, but shaving $100 off the cost of an Xbox One X might prove tempting for a lot of people. The Xbox One X is the most powerful console available at the moment, but it has a hefty price tag to go along with that title. $500 is a lot of money regardless of what you're buying, so any kind of discount is welcome.

Of course, you'll need to buy Red Dead Redemption 2 to go along with it, which is a $60 game that will eat into some of your savings. Still, you'll come out ahead of buying the console and game together at full price. If you want to take advantage of this offer, you'll need to do so between October 25 and November 3.

GameStop also revealed that it'll begin selling copies Red Dead Redemption 2 a little early, with the game launching at all of its stores at 9 PM local time on Thursday, October 25. While that's only a few hours before when it'll launch at other retailers, that extra three hours could be a big deal for people who want to start playing right away but have to work on Friday.
