Range Rover Sport HST adds 400PS inline-six with mild hybrid tech

Range Rover has announced the addition of a special version of the Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport HST features a new 400PS, 550Nm of torque Ingenium gas engine. That engine is a straight-size that Rover says adds balance and refinement to the line.

The inline six is a mild hybrid engine that offers an electric supercharger that is powered by a 48V electrical system. That supercharger helps to increase responsiveness and reduce lag. Rover says that the supercharger can spool fully in 0.5 seconds.

The new six-cylinder engine is exclusive to the HST model and pushes the Sport from 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and to a top speed of 140 mph. The engine has an all-new start-stop system for improved economy and the battery for the electrical system charges via regenerative braking. Other than the unique engine, the ride comes with a bunch of unique interior and exterior touches.

Range Rover Sport HST buyers get bespoke badging on the car and carbon fiber trim on the bonnet, front grille, side vents, and tailgate. The seats inside have an upgraded color pattern with suedecloth detailing and satin chrome bits. Color options include Santorini Black, Fuji White, Indus Silver, Firenze Red, and Carpathian Grey and all have red brake calipers with optional gray anodized calipers offered.

Safety enhancements include Advanced Cruise control with steer assist and Stop & Go. The ride also gets High Speed Emergency Braking and a Terrain Response 2 traction system. The Sport HST starts at £81,250 OTR in the UK with availability and pricing in other countries unannounced. Some countries will get a 360PS version of the engine.
