Rainbow Six Siege welcomes Maverick and Clash to the team

PUBG and Fortnite might be the most talked-about and most cloned games these days, but they literally aren't the only games in town, even when it comes to shooters. Compared to these youngsters, some games trace their lineage way back to the 90s, like Rainbow Six Siege. Based on Tom Clancy's novel "Rainbow Siege", the game has been in the market for close to three years now. But to prove that it is far from done with the franchise, Ubisoft is teasing its upcoming latest season that's going to shake things up even for veterans.

Called "Operation Grim Sky", the next update will be changing the game in both subtle and at the same time substantial ways. For example, the Consulate map gets some minor tweaks while the game's oldest map, Hereford Base, gets a complete overhaul.

And then there are the two new operators. You might compare that attacker Maverick to Thermite and Hibana but Ubisoft describes the new playable character as a "gentleman". While his Suri torch can burn through more types of materials, objects, and characters, it burns smaller holes that are best used for subterfuge and sneaking in kills. Subtlety is the name of Maverick's game.

In contrast, Clash was made to get into the middle of things and attract attention. Unlike fellow defender Montagne, her shield fully extends to cover her body and has a taser ready to shock anyone foolish enough to get too close. Designed to draw the enemy's attention away from her teammates, Clash' strength is also her weakness, unable to attack when holding her shield.

With Operation Grim Sky, Ubisoft is trying to mix things up to keep a three-year-old game interesting even for those who may have gotten bored by the status quo. No firm dates have been given yet but the update is expected to hit PC test servers first on 20th August. The console version goes live in September and season pass holders will get first dibs on the updates before everyone else.
