Rainbow Six: Siege players get free skin reward for using 2FA

Ubisoft is offering an incentive for Rainbow Six: Siege players to activate two-factor authentication: a free exclusive skin. The extra layer of security aims to protect players' accounts from misuse by others, doing so by requiring them to use an authenticator app to retrieve a unique sign-in code. Epic Games recently offered something similar to prod Fortnite players to 2FA.

Two-factor authentication is simple to use, but often ignored by users until it is too late. When enabled, the user must enter a unique code when they try to log into the account; this code is only accessible via an authenticator app on the user's mobile device, helping keep hackers out of the account.

Though some services allow users to get the 2FA code via an email or text messages, many have elected to limit support to only authenticator apps like Google Authenticator. Ubisoft is counted among them, requiring the user to download an authenticator app and then link it to their account when they first enable two-factor verification.

Though it's not a foolproof method to keep an account secure, 2FA makes any account using it more difficult to compromise, likely resulting in the would-be hacker abandoning it for an account that doesn't require verification. Ubisoft provides a full guide with visuals on enabling the account security option.
