QNAP Thunderbolt 2 Turbo vNAS TVS-871T NAS has 20Gbps bandwidth

QNAP system has introduced what it claims to be the first Thunderbolt 2 Turbo vNAS TVS-871T with 20 Gbps bandwidth aimed directly at people using 4K workflows. The device supports Thunderbolt 2 connectivity and can be expanded with Thunderbolt-ready expansion enclosures TX-500P and TX-800P. An Intel Haswell processor powers the storage solution.

Available processors include a quad core i5 and a quad core i7. The TVS-871T is an 8-bay device that has dual 10GbE ports in addition to the Thunderbolt 2 connectivity. The storage solution can also run Ethernet services along with the Thunderbolt 2 network.

Between the eight bays inside the TVS-871T and the expansion enclosures the device can support up to 448TB of storage. The device is aimed at Mac users and up to two Mac workstations can connect to a single 871T, Time Machine backups can be performed to the storage device as well.

The storage solution use QTS 4.2 operating system and can have a keyboard, mouse, and HDMI display directly connected to turn the device into a PC substitute. Both the i5 and i7 versions has 16GB of DDR3 RAM and support an AES-NI hardware encryption engine with hot swappable 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drive bays.
