PUBG's new weapon revealed - here's your first look

Earlier in the week, the developers behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds told us about a major update that's coming on August 3. In addition to new loot crates and a new hardcore game mode, the game will also be getting a new weapon on top of that. At the time, Bluehole didn't tell us what that new weapon was, but today, it was finally revealed – say hello to the Mk14 EBR.

The Mk14 EBR is a designated marksman rifle, otherwise known as a DMR. It'll use 7.62 ammo like the AKM and the Kar98 and it seems best suited for fighting at medium to long ranges. Pop a 4x or an 8x scope on it, and you'll be able to use it as a long-range sniper rifle, just like the SKS.

Unfortunately, those of us who know that going near supply drop crates is a bad idea if you want to win the game will likely never see it. The Mk14 EBR can only be found in those crates, which is disappointing to say the least. The last weapon Bluehole added to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the Groza assault rifle, is exclusive to supply drops as well, which means that neither it nor the Mk14 EBR can be looted normally in the game.

There are already a lot of weapons that are only obtainable through supply drops too, meaning that if you're the type to chase those supply drops despite the risk involved, it may still be a while before you get to take the Mk14 EBR for a spin. Hopefully Bluehole will rotate some guns out of the loot table for supply drops in order to increase the chances of the Mk14 EBR and the Groza appearing.

This new rifle will be coming to the game on August 3. Those who like to play on the PUBG test servers will likely see the Mk14 arrive the day before it hits the live servers. Expect the test servers to be crowded that day, too, as a lot of people have been looking forward to the incoming hardcore game mode.
