Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon trailer sends us to mysterious worlds

Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon are still about six weeks out, but Nintendo is keeping the hype train rolling by releasing a new trailer today. While other trailers have showed us what's changed around Alola, this one invites us to jump through the "Ultra Wormhole" and explore distant worlds. These worlds seem to be the domain of the Ultra Beasts that have found their way to the Alola region.

In fact, the Ultra Beasts are one of the main focuses of this new trailer. There are three Ultra Beasts previewed: UB Adhesive, a pure poison type Pokemon; the fire/ghost dual-type UB Burst; and finally, UB Assembly, which has the interesting type combination of rock and steel.

The trailer says that we'll be fighting the Ultra Beasts "on their own turf." While many of these additional areas seem to be small, we'll also be traveling to a city called Ultra Megalopis. This city is described as a "world where Necrozma has stolen all the light," confirming once more that Necrozma will be a major focus of Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon.

Since we see the player character using Lunala and Solgaleo to get to travel through Ultra Wormholes, it seems that visits to these other worlds will be either end-game or post-game content. You'll also encounter a new team called the Ultra Recon Squad, but the trailer doesn't give anything away about their motivations.

So, Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon are shaping up to be quite the expansions on the originals. These are likely the last mainline Pokemon games we'll see on the 3DS, as Nintendo and Game Freak have announced that a main-series Pokemon title is in development for the Nintendo Switch. Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon launch for the Nintendo 3DS on November 18.
