Pokemon GO guide: Detective Pikachu trick, Field Research Rewards, Shiny Flare-up
Today we're in the midst of the Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu movie celebration event. To celebrate this movie, Niantic released an update to Pokemon GO that'll last approximately one week. In this event, we'll see Detective Pikachu movie Pokemon in raid battles, catch XP doubled, and special limited Field Research. We've also got a brand new limited-edition Detective Pikachu to catch, and both Shiny Aipom and Ambipom!
Detective Hat Pikachu
How do I catch Detective Hat Pikachu? How might one find this elusive Pokemon? It requires only that you open your Pokemon camera with AR+ mode. If you do, you'll find Pikachu popping up in the background – snap him immediately!
This is very similar to what happened with Ash Hat Pikachu as well as Smeargle in the past. There's one trick to this process, though – or more of a sort-of glitch. If you open your camera once and leave without snapping a photo, you MAY have to wait 24 hours until you can see Detective Hat Pikachu again.
This is because there's a sort of switch that gets triggered the first time you open your camera, during this event. When the switch is triggered, you need to take a photo of Pikachu that first time – or wait a day.
Detective Pikachu Field Research List
In this list you'll find a set of Field Research entries activated this week – they'll go dark on May 17th, at 4PM Eastern Time. You need to capture these Pokemon and attain these goals before then!
• Detective Pikachu: Catch the water-type Pokémon carried in a backpack (Psyduck)
• Detective Pikachu: Catch the seed Pokémon that is seen walking in a river (Bulbasaur)
• Detective Pikachu: Catch 10 Jigglypuff, Aipom, or Snubbull
• Detective Pikachu: Catch the fire-type evolution of Eevee (Flareon)
Much like past Field Research, the reward for these different tasks is a singular encounter with a relatively rare Pokemon. Or, in the case of the first entry on the list, an encounter with a Pokemon that's rare for some people, and INSANELY COMMON for others.
Detective Pikachu Field Research Rewards
Each of the four tasks listed above has a single Reward: An encounter with a Pokemon. You can aim to catch each of these Pokemon, or just run away. Do as you wish!
• Magikarp (oh, wow, a fish)
• Treecko (fancy leafy!)
• Ditto (looking like Zubat until you catch)
• Arcanine (call the firehouse!)
Shiny Pokemon
Shiny Aipom and Ambipom are in the game, now, and they're (somehow) no more common than any other Shiny Pokemon. That's according to research we've done and compared with research done by members of The Silph Road on Reddit in chats.
BUT There's more! It would appear that Shiny Bulbasaur, Cubone, Snubbull, Squirtle, Charmander, and Psyduck are out in the wild in higher numbers than they've possibly ever been before. This has a little to do with the fact that these monsters are in the Detective Pikachu Movie, and are therefore more common during this event in general – but still! Look at how shiny!
Glaceon and Leafeon evolution from Eevee
Watch your backs, users of earlier evolutions of Eevee, Leafeon and Glaceon are coming down the pipeline! The methods for evolving eevee into these new creatures was leaked this week. They'll come in the form of the Glacial Lure Module and the Mossy Lure Module – because why not?!
