PlayStation Tournaments hawk prizes in eSports competitions

Sony has teamed up with ESL to bring a new feature to its latest-gen console: PlayStation Tournaments. The first among the so-called "Major" tournaments, which will be available to PlayStation 4 owners, is NBA 2K17. The tournament will coincide with the launch of the latest NBA season, running from October 27 to November 26. Major Cup rounds will be held each Saturday during this time, and ultimately three winners will be selected.

At the start, PlayStation Tournaments will offer one-on-one matches between players, but that may change in the future. Winners not only compete for the notoriety of being the best among their challengers, but also for prizes. Sony says some of the winners' awards will include PlayStation gear like a new DualShock 4 controller.

You'll need to signup to participate, and obviously you'll need a copy of NBA 2K17. Sony says you'll have to register an ESL account, then link that to the tournament. You'll also need a PlayStation Plus account, which is necessary for playing any game online. Tournament signups are open now.

To find the Tournaments (once they start later this month), open your PlayStation 4's system menu and open 'Events.' You'll see the details, signup, and then get prompts to play the matches you're in. It isn't clear what other tournaments Sony will be holding in the future.
