The console wars are ones that know little bounds, and in them are all sorts of claims and proclamations. Sony fans have a reason to cheer, according to a report just released by NPD Group: the PlayStation 4 is reported as having the highest first-month sales number for any hardware platform. This goes for sales in November. Microsoft isn’t entirely left out of the mix, however, with the report showing a close race in the weekly numbers.
Beyond the PlayStation 4 taking its November record, the month as a whole was excellent for the gaming industry, marking the best November hardware sales yet, thanks going to the PS4 and Xbox One launch, as well as continued positive Nintendo 3DS sales. The Xbox One took second place to Sony’s console, but the reason seems largely due to the later release date.
According to NPD Group analyst Liam Callahan, the PS4 had what amounted to a one-week jump on the Xbox One, and then when breaking down the numbers from a monthly basis to a weekly one, the per-week average showed the Xbox One holding the lead. Beyond that, Microsoft has its own reason to rejoice, with November 2013 marking the largest console launch for the company yet.
Beyond the consoles, the NPD report also lists the top ten bestselling titles in the US last month, and one won’t find many surprises on it. Call of Duty: Ghosts came in as number one, followed by, in order: Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Madden NFL 25, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K14, Skylanders SWAP Force, Just Dance 2014, Disney Infinity, FIFA 14.
