Pixel, Pixel XL Beans Spilled By Carphone Warehouse

It seems that carriers and retailers might have been just a tad too excited for the upcoming Pixel and Pixel XL. Hot on the heels of images "accidentally" leaked by Canadian carrier Bell, UK's Carphone Warehouse has practically outed the smartphones in their entirety. Give or take a few weird bits and pieces. While the specs don't really reveal anything we haven't heard before, the press materials practically complete both the image and the idea of what the "Phone by Google" would be like.

There are a few oddities in Carphone's listing of the devices, which are probably more reflective of the rush that the retailer made to put up the landing pages for the smartphones ahead of Google's Tuesday affair. While we most certainly won't mind a microSD card slot, none of the earlier leaked details or photos hinted at that. And 1920x1080 is definitely not Quad HD. Still, the list confirms most of the other aspects, like the 5-inch screen, Snapdragon 821, 4 GB RAM, and, sadly, 2,770 mAh battery for the Pixel.

Design-wise, we're also getting to see the smartphones from all angles, includes the rarely seen side edges. Not that there's much to see there, with only the power buttons, volume rocker (not separate buttons), and SIM card slot gracing those curved sides. At the bottom is a SB-C port flanked by speaker grilles on each side. Don't worry, there's still a headphone jack located by its lonesome self at the top.

The feature overview mostly focuses on the software features coming via Android 7.1. Most, like Google Photos, Duo, and Allo, we already know. But for the first time, we're also catching a glimpse of Google Assistant, which will allow for both voice input as well as pre-defined text options.

All that's really left now is the price for both smartphones. Sadly, those details have yet to be corroborated by leaks. Then again, we only need to wait less than two days for the real McCoy anyway.
