Overwatch celebrates the Year of the Rooster next week

Just a couple of weeks after its Holiday event wrapped up, Overwatch is gearing up to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We don't know a whole lot about this Year of the Rooster event at at the moment, as Blizzard is keeping details painfully slim. We do, however, have a start date and a preview of a couple legendary skins that will be up for grabs.

First and foremost, Overwatch's Year of the Rooster event will kick off on January 24. This is the same day that the Lunar Festival begins in Heroes of the Storm, so if you play both games you're going to have to figure out a way to divide your time. Just as well, World of Warcraft's Lunar Festival will already be underway by the time the events in Heroes and Overwatch begin, which means that big Blizzard fans will have a pretty packed schedule as we head into February.

So far, Blizzard has only shared a couple of short video clips announcing Overwatch's Year of the Rooster event. In the first one, we see Mei dressed in what appears to be a new legendary skin. She's offering a collection of red envelopes, so maybe we can expect them to play some sort of role in the event? Time will tell.

In a second clip, which was shared with Korean players, we get a look at a new legendary skin for D.Va. She hasn't received a legendary skin in any of the events held thus far, so seeing this should make quite a few D.Va players happy. Have a look at both skins in the video below:

Like the events that came before this, we can probably expect the Year of the Rooster celebration to last two or three weeks. For what it's worth, the events in WoW and Heroes will last for two weeks and three weeks respectively, so we're almost certainly looking at a similar time line for Overwatch. The whole thing kicks off on January 24, so get ready to hop back in and earn some event-exclusive loot boxes.
