OnePlus 6 Silk White sold out: here's when you can buy one next

Artificial scarcity wins again. Branding something as a limited edition product is definitely a good way to drum up hype and increase chances of sales. It could, conversely, also induce some agitation and impatience among those late to the party. That's definitely the situation that OnePlus is facing after its limited edition OnePlus 6 Silk White edition sold out in under 24 hours. So what's OnePlus to do? Why hold another flash sale, of course.

Why is the OnePlus 6 Silk White such a hot seller? Mostly because OnePlus declared that this is a rare edition that is unlikely to be made or sold again. But what exactly made it rare in the first place? Mostly because OnePlus said so.

The manufacturing process to create the phone's silky white sheen is, of course, different from the Midnight Black color, which itself differs from the Mirror Black. But aside from the slight difference in process and materials used, there is little in the Silk White edition that would make it harder or more expensive to make. Otherwise, OnePlus would have made it uber expensive, which would make it sell far less quicker than it did.

It's $579 price tag is exactly the same as the Midnight Black and Mirror Black options with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. And that's exactly what you're getting in the limited edition Silk White and nothing else. So you're pretty much stuck with that configuration and price, no questions asked.

And apparently it's not as limited as OnePlus would like to make us believe. That's because it will be selling the OnePlus 6 Silk White Limited Edition again on June 12 at 10 AM ET for those who failed to grabbed one already. But maybe that's really the last time it will be sold, so if you're aiming for a OnePlus 6 that will standout from the rest, without a case, then be sure not to miss the next one.
