OnePlus 6 Silk White available this week

The speed you need is coming in the color you want. Or probably want, if you're a fan of not so dark hues. While OnePlus has been selling flagships in more somber tones of black and grey, some people want theirs in glaring red or pristine white. This week, OnePlus will be granting the wishes of the latter group by finally launching the OnePlus 6 Silk White, a blast from the past built with the technology of the present.

This new color option for the OnePlus 6 is really no secret. After having been leaked even before the smartphone was announced, OnePlus did acknowledge that a white variant will be following the two black OnePlus 6 colors. And, for those following OnePlus' history, it isn't its first time to dabble in the color as well. It started all the way back to the OnePlus One color of the same name.

The difference, of course, is that the OnePlus One's back cover was removable. Being permanently in place and using premium materials, OnePlus had to change the way it made the OnePlus 6 version. For example, it uses pearl powder in the coating for a shining, shimmering, splendid effect. There are also six layers of coating applied to give it a frosted look. And, of course, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top to protect it.

Other than that, there isn't anything that will distinguish this OnePlus Silk White from its darker siblings. At least not its specs, like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the 6.28-inch Samsung (not Super) AMOLED 2280x1080 notched display. Nor does it change the fact that the OnePlus 6 has no wireless charging capability.

That said, the OnePlus 6 Silk White will be a limited edition variant, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and no other configuration. It will sell for $579 when oneplus.com doors open on June 5, 10 AM ET. That's also the same day when the $69 OnePlus Bullet Wireless earphones will go on sale.
