OnePlus 5 All But Officially Revealed In India

Rather than be considered the worst kept secret, OnePlus seems to have decided to just let everyone see the OnePlus 5 anyway. Well, somewhat. In India, right in the middle of the ICC Champions Trophy cricket tournament, OnePlus inserted a short ad that not only reminded the nation that the OnePlus 5 will launch there on Thursday but also finally reveals how it looks from top, bottom, front, and back.

OnePlus already teased the top half of the OnePlus 5 and it doesn't take much imagination to formulate what the whole would look like. Without a rear placed fingerprint scanner and without a bezel-less screen, the only location for that sensor would be on the front. OnePlus also already talked about the smartphone's design, so its slight resemblance to an iPhone shouldn't come as surprise.

OnePlus' ad placement was strategic. Cricket is India's most beloved sport, so getting a spot for its upcoming smartphone is definitely a smart move. Much like how companies scramble for Super Bowl air time. OnePlus even enlisted the help of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan to tease the launch.

The ad, of course, didn't have space or time for more details, but the OnePlus 5 is expected to run on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and may have as much as 8 GB of RAM. Jury's still out on the screen resolution, though both Chinese and India markets are quite used to flagships still using 1080p resolutions.

Although the OnePlus 5 is set to debut on the 20th, OnePlus will be launching it in India on the 22nd. As before, it will be an Amazon exclusive. Pricing has yet to be announced.
