Nokia battery recall isn't actually a recall, or is it?

Remember that story that we ran yesterday on the huge Nokia battery recall? Nokia has made an official statement regarding the story. The recall is for real, but they wanted to clarify one minor detail.

Apparently this is a voluntary recall, not your regular run-of-the-mill recall. I guess I need to read more of the fine print because to me, if some thing is bad and they ask you to return it for a replacement, that's a recall. Here is what the Nokia spokesperson had to say about the matter. "The difference is that a recall is something a company has to do. We did not. We simply felt that in this case, it was the right thing to do."

They are saying now that the only problem you will experience is that the battery may swell and cause minor damage to your phone. Regardless, if you have one of the affected batteries I would highly suggest contacting them for a replacement.
