Nokia 7 Plus seen with upgraded processor

2018 has already begun but it seems that HMD Global isn't yet read to show all its Nokia cards yet. Well, aside from the Nokia 6 (2018), which is practically an upgraded Nokia 6, if that weren't obvious from the name. But unlike that, the Nokia 7's "upgrade" won't be like that. Which is probably why HMD isn't appending a "2018" to it. Instead, the Nokia 7 Plus sighted on Geekbench seems to simply have a slightly higher processor than the original.

Like the Nokia 6 (2018), the Nokia 7 Plus isn't exactly expected. Most heads are turned towards the Nokia 9 which, if the leaks and rumors are spot on, might be one of the more curious phones to come this year. It might, however, be preceded by this "refresh" first.

Unlike AnTuTu, Geekbench's entries don't share a lot of detail. Here, the Nokia 7 Plus is shown to be running on a Snapdragon 660, which doesn't seem to be too big of an upgrade from the Nokia 7's Snapdragon 630. The benchmark also notes that the phone only has 4 GB of RAM. But as with many smartphones, there might be options for 6 GB of RAM.

The Nokia 7 Plus may appear at MWC 2018 next month, though it is more likely to be announced before that. Especially if HMD doesn't plan on selling it in all markets. It might be more focused on the high-end Nokia 9. That one, unfortunately, bears only last year's specs, though it might come with a dual front camera setup.

That still might not be Nokia's 2018 champion. That title might, instead, belong to a still unnamed flagship that will, for better or worse, sport five cameras. How HMD plans to pull, not to mention sell, that is going to be interesting to watch.
