Nokia 7.1 now available in the US

Almost just like the old days, HMD Global seems to be keen on flooding the market with a dozen or so Nokia phones. For better or for worse, not all of those make it to the US market. You can count the Nokia 7.1 as one of those few that have reached the shores. And while it might not be the high-end Nokia flagship that some Android fans might still be anticipating, it definitely hits that sweet spot as far as price and features go.

As far as specs go, the Nokia 7.1 is unabashedly a mid-range smartphone, though of the slightly higher kind. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636, the model available in the US at least boasts 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. The not so large, at least by today’s standards, 5.84-inch screen gets a resolution of 2220×1080, which, of course, means it has a notch.

While some might consider these to be rather mediocre hardware, HMD Global is banking on selling the smartphone’s photography features embodied in its 12 megapixel f/1.8 primary camera, assisted by a 5 megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor. And, of course, there’s a healthy serving of software features, including a Pro mode for minute controls.

Its real appeal will be how much that package costs. Only $349, available from Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H Photo and available only in Blue. The Nokia 7.1 runs the Android 8.1 Oreo of pure Android One with Android 9 Pie already in the works.
