Nokia 5.1 Plus is coming and HMD doesn't need a poll for it

HMD Global is becoming one of the most prolific Android smartphone makers of late and you might not know it. That's mostly because their smartphones are, of course, branded as Nokia phones. But more than the name, they have proven themselves to be quite the formidable contenders in the market and almost every new model is met with anticipation. The new mid-range Nokia X5 is no different and HMD Global has more or less confirmed that it is coming to the rest of the world, too.

The Nokia X5 is the Nokia X6's younger sibling in more ways than one. While the two share the same notched screen design, a first for Nokia phones, the Nokia X5 bears more modest hardware. That includes a MediaTek Helio P60, 3 or 4 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of storage, and a 5.86-inch 1520x720 HD+ screen.

Almost just after the smartphone launched, HMD Global also launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus. As rumors before hinted at, it was practically the Nokia X6 with two important differences. One, it ran on Android One (8.1 Oreo) and, two, it was going to be made available to markets outside of China.

Unsurprisingly, some wanted the Nokia X5 to get the same treatment. HMD Global's Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas responded on Twitter that they don't think they need to do a poll for it. This was in reference to a poll the company did do for the Nokia X6, proving how much interest there was in making it available internationally.

Sarvikas, of course, doesn't mention the Nokia 5.1 Plus by name but it's easy to put two and two together. The bigger question is whether it, or the Nokia 6.1 Plus for that matter, will actually make it to the US at all.
