No Man's Sky launches weekly community events with cosmetic rewards

Now that we're a few weeks out from the launch of No Man's Sky NEXT, it's clear that the major content update was a turning point for the game. It seems that the team at Hello Games has been spending the weeks since NEXT released working on even more content for the game, as a new patch is launching weekly community events. By participating in these events, you'll have the opportunity to earn new cosmetics, whether those are new base building components or customization options for your character.

It would appear that Hello Games has big plans for the future, as this new patch begins the first season of weekly community events. How long they'll last is anyone's guess, but it sounds like there will be plenty of cosmetic items to unlock for players who want to participate in the coming weeks and months.

The community events for this week revolve around Specialist Polo and Priest Entity Nada, two characters who play a major part in one of the game's main story lines. They've discovered "a previously undetected iteration of the universe," and they've put out a call for space-faring adventurers to explore it. By assisting them, you'll earn Quicksilver – one of the game's three currencies – which can then be used to buy new cosmetic items from one of Polo's robotic assistants.

The begin this quest line, you'll need to have completed the first part of the Space Anomaly mission, which basically amounts to meeting Polo and Nada for the first time. Once you've done that, you'll be able to accept Polo's research project and begin exploring this strange section of the universe to earn Quicksilver. It sounds like Polo's research project will pan out over multiple weeks, so this could turn into quite the sprawling story by the time everything is said and done.

The initial group of cosmetic items available through Polo's assistant include 6 base building parts, 3 decals, a new character customization, and a new emote. You can see those in the picture above, and Hello Games says that these offerings will expand to include more than 50 items in upcoming weeks. The patch enabling these community events – patch 1.58 – is live now, and you can head over to the No Man's Sky site to see the bug fixes and tweaks that are coming along with it.
