Nintendo Wii finally gets a YouTube app in the US

If you're a fan of watching streaming video on YouTube from individual users or professionally made content such as movie trailers and TV shows, you probably know that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 have had YouTube apps for a long time. If you own the Nintendo Wii, you were out of luck when it came to an official YouTube app. At least you were until this week.

YouTube has announced that its official app for the Nintendo Wii is now available to download in the United States. The official app is designed for big-screen TVs and to be used with the Wii Remote. The app offers the ability to browse through various YouTube videos, and to browse through the channels you enjoy right from your big-screen TV in the living room.

The app is available to download from the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel, and YouTube says that it will be bringing the app to additional countries in the coming months. When users sign into the YouTube app on their Wii, they will find the channels they are subscribed to. Users can also navigate through categories such as gaming, music, training videos, and more.

I'm sure a lot of Wii owners will be very glad this app is now available. Since you can rent movies from YouTube, this would give users yet another streaming option to go along with Netflix. The app also offers an on-screen search to allow you to search for specific videos using the motion control Wii remote.
