Nintendo Switch Owners Reporting Problems With Warping Tablets
The launch issues fans have been experiencing with the Nintendo Switch have been fairly well documented, but for the most part, these problems have been minor. Issues like Joy-Con or WiFi connectivity seem to field most of the complaints, and while those are certainly annoying, they can also be dealt with. However, one new problem could prove to be quite a bit more serious than other issues that have been reported thus far.
It would appear that some Switches are beginning to warp. What appears the be the earliest indication of this comes from a NeoGAF thread that began last week and is still attracting replies. Then, a Reddit user kicked off this rather massive thread on the site's gaming subreddit, sharing a photo of a Switch that is clearly bent.
The Reddit poster says that their Switch is in the dock most of the time, leading some in the thread to speculate that the Switch is warping because of the extra heat that comes from increasing the CPU's clock speed. Others aren't convinced that's the issue, with at least one user in the thread mentioning that the metal shield within the Switch should prevent warping due to heat.
So perhaps these are defects? There are a few users who mention that their consoles are showing a similar bend but express confusion because they haven't been using it in docked mode often. That lends a little more believability to the idea that these consoles we shipped with this issue and users simply haven't noticed until now.
While it's encouraging to hear that this problem hasn't affected gameplay (yet), it's still concerning to see it happening. Despite all of the speculation, the cause behind this is unknown for the moment. If your Switch appears to have a bend to it, it seems that the best thing you can do right now is get in touch with Nintendo support.
