Back when Nintendo started manufacturing playing cards 125 years ago, its creators could hardly have imagined the size the company would have achieved here in our present. As many things have changed since the company arrived, inside the gaming industry as well as without, Nintendo has suggested today that they’ll be initiating a new business that will further address their expanded definition of entertainment.
That expanded notion suggests that entertainment requires that the person being entertained must be having their quality of life improved. To bring a higher “QOL” to users around the globe, Nintendo has decided to set a new focus on health.
“We believe that we can capitalize the most on our strengths through a hardware-software integrated platform business, and therefore this type of dedicated video game platforms will remain our core focus.” – Nintendo
The team will be “apart from [Nintendo’s] dedicated video game business”, as they’ve made clear this week, with “health” as a theme. They’ll be using the motto “The True Value of Entertainment Lies in Individuality,” and will be striving for “a platform business that improves people’s QOL in enjoyable ways” over the next 10 years.
Nintendo’s next adventure here will be to strive to promote their existing strategy – expanding their user base – while they “create an environment in which more people are conscious about their health.” With products like WiiFit and a number of health-friendly games having been released over the past several years, it’s easy to see how Nintendo might continue to grow in a way that’s ready to pump you up.
