Nintendo Direct event set for this Thursday

Nintendo has announced that its next Nintendo Direct event will take place this upcoming Thursday, marking the first time it has streamed a new Direct video since the passing of former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. The stream will start at 2PM PT, and will detail upcoming updates for both the Nintendo 3DS and the less popular Wii U. The company is careful to note that neither updates on mobile nor NX will be given during this Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo Direct was previously headed by Satoru Iwata; the events were halted following his passing this summer, making the upcoming event notable. Nintendo's new President Tatsumi Kimishima had stated that a new Direct would be streamed before 2015 reached its end, but at the time no word was given on a specific streaming date.

As in the past, the Nintendo Direct event will be streamed on both Nintendo's website and on Twitch; those who aren't familiar can check out past Direct videos in Nintendo's archive. Who will host the new Direct wasn't stated, though a tweet from the Nintendo of Europe account indicates the division's executive Satoru Shibata will be serving as host.

The tweet reads:

[Shibata] I hope you will join me for a new #NintendoDirectEU with updates on upcoming #WiiU & #3DS games on 12/11!
