Nickelodeon may be working on an animated Nintendo show

Nickelodeon may be planning an animated show based on a popular Nintendo game franchise, at least per comments made recently on the Nick Animation Podcast. According to Federation Studios' Fred Seibert, there's some project underway that 'needs to go unnamed,' but it is 'based on one of the most world famous video games of the last 30 years.' While there are many games that could fit the bill, speculation has it the game comes from Nintendo.

Frederation Studios and Fred Seibert are behind some popular Nickelodeon shows, including The Fairly OddParents, to name one. It wouldn't be surprising at all to see Nickelodeon tap the studio for a new major show, and in fact, Seibert says that the aforementioned unnamed famous video game has been 'in our shop for twelve years without being able to get it started.'

Fans are currently pointing toward Nintendo as the probable (hopeful) source of the game, and for multiple reasons: for one thing, the game has been popular for 30 years, making Nintendo a likely source. As well, Nintendo has been branching out fairly extensively in recent months and years, not the least of which is its forray into mobile games.

There's a new Nintendo-themed world coming to a trio of Universal Studios destinations next year, and having a Nickelodeon cartoon launch on a major network around the same time would go along nicely with the theme park entertainment. However, this only remains speculation at this time, as nothing has been confirmed.
